Enjoy a Carefree Summer!
Dreaming of an unforgettable family vacation or holiday with friends? Renting a yacht/sailboat is undoubtedly one of the best ways to spend hot summer days and create unforgettable memories. However, due to the vast variety of different models, finding the perfect sailboat can be very challenging. Thus, in most cases, the problem arises right from the start. With this short guide, we hope to offer you some useful tips to help you plan your next sailing getaway more easily!
Know Your Crew
- How many people will be on board and consequently, how many cabins do you need?
- When are we going? Agree on a date with your crew in advance.
- How experienced are we? Does anyone in your crew have a boat license or is an experienced sailor/navigator? If not, you can hire a skipper with us.
- What are we sailing with? Depending on the crew's preferences, decide on the type of vessel: sailboat, catamaran, motorboat, motor yacht, etc.
Chart Your Course
- Where are we going? Roughly determine the destinations with the crew; islands/cities/bays you wish to visit. The most popular sailing destinations are Croatia, Greece, Turkey, Italy, Spain, and the Caribbean.
- If you're out of ideas, you can use our suggestions:
- Where should we start? Once you've decided on the desired destinations, choose a nearby starting marina.
Yacht/Vessel Specifications
Once you have the answers to the above questions, you can dive into more specific matters:
-
Based on the size of your crew, the number of desired cabins, and the budget, decide on the size of the sailboat, catamaran, or motorboat.
- Sailboats usually have 3, 4, or 5 cabins and a salon that can be converted into a single or double bed.
- Catamarans usually have 4 (slightly larger) cabins and a salon that can also be converted into a single or double bed. In addition, larger catamarans have a skipper and chef/hostess cabin in the front.
- According to preferences, decide on the age (year) of the vessel and the shipyard (brand). Similar to cars, yacht brands are also ranked based on quality and manufacturing. In the world of yachting, there is an unwritten rule:
HANSE DUFOUR (Grand Large) ELAN (Impression) BAVARIA (Bavaria Cruiser) BENETEAU (Oceanis) JEANNEAU (Sun Odyssey)
- Finally, decide on the additional amenities you want on board. Modern yachts offer a wide selection of different options; from kitchen appliances (coffee maker, ice maker, toaster, etc.) to sailing accessories (Code-0, Gennaker, Spinnaker, etc.). Various water toys (SUP, diving equipment, JETSKI, etc.) are also available.
